Radiation oncologists, radiation oncology nurses, medical physicists, radiation therapists, dosimetrists and biologists comprise ASTRO’s more than 9,000 members, making it the largest radiation oncology organization of its kind. These medical professionals, found at hospitals and cancer treatment centers around the globe, make up the radiation therapy treatment teams that are critical in the fight against cancer. About the Opportunity/Requirements:
compress Director of Research Initiatives ASTRO, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, has an exciting opportunity for a seasoned association program manager to direct and lead the society’s research award activities, initiatives and services. The Director works closely with our volunteer councils and committees to develop and carryout our research award agenda in order to promote research among the ASTRO membership, particularly the junior members. Individual also implements ASTRO’s guideline development process and collaborates with other interested organizations on guideline development.
Other major responsibilities include:
· conducting, analyzing and disseminating findings from census surveys of radiation oncology practice locations and treatment patterns
· serving as lead staff liaison to the Research Council Board Members and supervising committee and subcommittee activities and staff
· representing ASTRO at relevant research-related meetings held by governmental and non-governmental organizations and identifying potential collaborations and seeking ASTRO’s inclusion in such activities.
Successful candidates will have:
· Advanced Degree in related field (MS, MPH, or equivalent) and five (5) years of related work experience with a medical-health related trade association or NCI, NIH, FDA, AHRQ, NCQA, or NQF.
Strong project management and planning skills with ability to work at a fast pace, determine priorities, and meet critical deadlines.
Knowledge of research and evidence-based methods with the ability to analyze research related to radiation oncology.
Strong decision-making and problem solving skills with ability to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of issues.
Human resource management with the ability to manage staff towards the successful achievement of established goals.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to interact effectively with contacts inside and outside the association with the ability to present complex technical issues and options and be viewed as an expert resource.
Superior interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to relate well to different people from varied backgrounds and different situations.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially spreadsheet creation.
